Satu Santala becomes member of World Bank Board of Directors
On 11 April 2013, the Government appointed Counsellor for Foreign Affairs Ms. Satu Santala to represent the State of Finland as a member of the World Bank Board of Directors for a three-year term of office, starting in July 2013.
The World Bank Board of Directors consists of 25 members. The Nordic countries and the Baltic countries form a joint voting group, which has one joint member and alternate member on the Board of Directors. According to an agreed rotation, membership of the Board of Directors falls to Finland for a three-year period, starting in July 2013. At the same time, Finland will be responsible for the international coordination of World Bank affairs for the Nordic Baltic group.
Ms. Santala is currently Deputy Director-General in the Ministry for Foreign Affairs’ Department of Development Policy. Previously, she worked in the department as Head of Unit for Development Financing Institutions and in official duties with the World Bank Group. In addition, she has worked in Finnish embassies in Tanzania and India.
Minister of Finance Jutta Urpilainen represents Finland on the World Bank Board of Governors.
