International financial affairs

Finland is a party to or member of various international financial institutions and mechanisms. The task of these institutions is to promote economic growth and development and ensure stability.

The Ministry of Finance represents Finland in international affairs within its sphere of operations and promotes the economic interests of Finland and the achievement of the country's strategic goals. The Ministry of Finance is responsible for preparatory work in matters related to international financial institutions, other international organisations, the stability of the euro area and financial aid programmes.

Financial assistance programmes and euro area stability

Financial assistance programmes can be used to support the recovery of countries experiencing financial difficulties. A condition for granting loans is that agreed economic and structural reforms are made.
