Glimpses of future local government

The Ministry of Finance is to hold a seminar in January 2019 on digitalisation and the future shape of Finland’s local government.

Date and time: Tuesday 29 January, 12.00–17.00

Venue: Hall of Culture (Kulttuuritalo), Helsinki

What will Finland’s local government look like in the future? Does technology already offer solutions to the challenges faced in the municipal operating environment? Can digitalisation and predictive data analysis provide answers to exclusion and loneliness or to disparities between different locations? And should all municipalities have the same duties and tasks to perform?

The seminar will focus on scenarios and trends concerning future local government in Finland, covering the next government term and beyond. An overview of the Government’s ‘Municipality of the Future’ reform project and the Digital Municipalities Experiment will also be given.

The discussion participants will include senior figures from the Ministry of Finance, policy-makers, researchers and developers, and hopefully also a number of participants with unconventional views! The event will be opened by Minister of Local Government and Public Reforms Anu Vehviläinen.

The discussion promises to be engaging and thought-provoking, with exciting ideas and insights on the future of Finland’s local government.

Mark the date in your diary! You can even register for it straight away.
