Population Register Centre

The Population Register Centre is the central authority for population registration in Finland. It develops and directs population registration in the country and maintains the national population information system together with Register Offices. The Population Register Centre is also responsible for the national information and online services of the population information system. In addition, the Population Register Centre attends to the following matters: certificate services, chip ID cards, the register of eligible voters, the public sector contact directory (JULHA), and the guardianship register.

The Population Register Centre, which comes under the Ministry of Finance, was established in 1969.

In their jurisdictional region, register offices are responsible for the population information system, guardianship matters, the Trade Register and the Register of Associations and the National Boat Register.
