Senior management

The Ministry’s most senior public official is Permanent Secretary Martti Hetemäki. He is assisted by Permanent Under-Secretary for Governance Policy Päivi Nerg, Economic Policy Coordinator Markus Sovala and Director of Administrative Governance and Development Juha Majanen.

Permanent Secretary

Permanent Secretary Martti Hetemäki is the Ministry’s most senior public official. He directs, develops and monitors the work of the Ministry and activities falling within its branch of government. He also manages the preparation of matters concerning extra-budgetary funds.

 

 

Permanent Under-Secretary

The Permanent Under-Secretary for Governance Policy is Päivi Nerg. She manages and coordinates the preparation of governance policy matters within the purview of the Personnel and Governance Policy Department, the Department for Local Government and Regional Administration and the Public Sector ICT Department. She is also responsible for the results-based management and steering of Regional State Administrative Agencies, Local Register Offices, Statistics Finland, the State Treasury, the Government Shared Services Centre for Finance and HR (Palkeet), the Government ICT Centre (Valtori) and the Population Register Centre, and for the preparation of matters concerning Senate Properties.

Economic Policy Coordinator

Economic Policy Coordinator Markus SovalaThe Economic Policy Coordinator is Markus Sovala. The Economic Policy Coordinator assists Permanent Secretary Hetemäki in developing and coordinating economic policy matters within the purview of the Economics Department, the Budget Department and the Tax Department, along with matters related to the budgetary stability control instruments within the purview of the Department for Local Government and Regional Administration.

 

Director of Administrative Governance and Development

The Director of Administrative Governance and Development is Juha Majanen. The Director of Administrative Governance and Development assists the Permanent Secretary by developing and leading the results-based management and ownership steering of the administrative branch, as well as Ministry-internal activities, organisation and human resources policy. The Director of Administrative Governance and Development is also responsible for the results-based management and steering of Customs, the Government Institute for Economic Research and the Tax Administration.
