Cyber security and oversight of information security
The tasks of the Ministry of Finance include the general development of information security in public administration, and the oversight of information security in central government administration. In public administration, the Ministry of Finance promotes cyber, digital and information security. It contributes to the drawing up of the related decisions and development programmes and to the oversight of their implementation. The Ministry is also involved in securing the ICT infrastructure and digital services for public administration. For example, it may specify the priority, urgency and importance levels for service provision and use.
Strategic cyber security is affected by changes in the international and national environment and the security situation, increasing cyber security regulation at the EU and national levels, and the growing opportunities and new threats presented by technologies. The digital transformation and the data economy both need strong cyber security, nationally and globally. In order to manage strategic cyber security, the Ministry of Finance has appointed a Strategic Advisory Board on Cyber Security in Public Administration for the term of 1 August 2024–31 December 2027. It is one of the advisory boards of the Coordination Group for Digitalisation. The Board's objectives, tasks, members and activities are described in the Ministry of Finance's projects and law drafting section (available in Finnish and Swedish).
