Managing Director of the European Stability Mechanism visits Finland
Minister of Finance Petteri Orpo will meet Managing Director of the European Stability Mechanism Klaus Regling in Helsinki on Friday 9 December. In their meeting, Orpo and Regling will discuss the financial stability of the euro area and other key issues.
On Thursday, Managing Director Regling will meet members of the parliamentary Grand Committee, Commerce Committee and Finance Committee.
New institutional structures were established in the euro area to manage the debt crisis: first a temporary European Financial Stability Facility (EFSF) and then the permanent European Stability Mechanism (ESM). Both have been led by Klaus Regling since their creation.
Earlier, Regling has held senior positions, for example, in the International Monetary Fund and the German Ministry of Finance and worked as Director General for Economic and Financial Affairs of the European Commission. He has also been one of the key persons contributing to the preparations of European Economic and Monetary Union and measures to promote stability in the EU and euro area in 2008–2016.
