Prime Minister Petteri Orpo’s Government will negotiate on the General Government Fiscal Plan for 2027–2030 in its spending limits session on 21–22 April. The negotiations will take place at the House of the Estates in Helsinki. The Government’s discussion on the General Government Fiscal Plan is known as the spending limits session.
New legislation would give municipalities the option to collect a tourist tax, which would be a new source of income from tourism. Individual municipalities would decide whether to adopt the tax.
It will soon be possible to receive mail from public authorities using commercially available digital mailbox services. The plan is for this option to be available in the autumn of 2026.
Minister of Finance Riikka Purra will participate in the Spring Meetings of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the World Bank in Washington DC on 15–17 April. The main themes for the week of meetings are the impact of the conflict in the Middle East on the global economy and creating jobs and growth in developing economies.
Finland and a group of other NATO countries are exploring the establishment of a new financing mechanism.
