The State of Finland is acquiring the Class A shares in Fingrid currently owned by Ilmarinen Mutual Pension Insurance Company. The total share purchase price is about EUR 401.3 million. The acquisition will strengthen the State’s ability to steer Fingrid, which a company of strategic interest.
The International Monetary Fund (IMF) published its annual report on the Finnish economy on Monday 19 January. According to the IMF, efforts to strengthen public finances will have to continue for several years.
Finland’s economic recovery has been weaker than expected this year. The general government deficit is wide, and the debt ratio will continue to grow, estimates the Ministry of Finance in its economic forecast published on 18 December.
The Council of the European Union will adopt the recommendations for corrective measures in January when deciding to open an excessive deficit procedure.

The central government's appropriations in the budget proposal total EUR 88.8 billion. Revenue is estimated at EUR 76.6 billion. The budget proposal shows a deficit of EUR 12.1 billion.
