Finland’s term as chair of Coalition of Finance Ministers for Climate Action ends
The Coalition of Finance Ministers for Climate Action will discuss financing the green transition and strengthening the role of finance ministries in climate work this Friday in Washington. The ministers will publish a practical guide to help ministries implement climate measures.
The Coalition was founded on Finland’s initiative in 2019, and Finland has co-chaired the Coalition since then. During Finland’s term, an institutional base was created for the Coalition, and the Coalition took an active role on the international stage.
Holland will take Finland’s place as co-chair, and Indonesia will continue as the second co-chair.
The Coalition expanded rapidly during Finland’s term:
-
There are now 84 member countries around the world, compared to 26 when the Coalition was founded. The Coalition also has 26 institutional partners.
-
The member countries now represent about 66 per cent of global gross domestic product.
-
The member countries represent about 40 per cent of global emissions.
Finland will be represented at the meeting by Pekka Morén, Special Representative of the Minister of Finance. The meeting will be held in connection with the Spring Meetings of the World Bank Group and the International Monetary Fund.
