17.12.2024 | At its meeting on 17 December 2024, the ministerial working group on reforming society decided on updating the Digital Compass implementation plan and on circulating for comments the government proposal concerning legislation supplementing the European Data Act. The ministers also discussed the progress of the implementation of the cyber security strategy.

3.9.2024 | The 2025 budget proposal of Prime Minister Orpo's Government bolsters conditions for economic growth. Economic growth driven by the private sector will also serve to secure the financing base for central government finances. The fast-acting measures to curb indebtedness that were decided on due to the difficult situation in central government finances will move forward.

15.3.2024 | The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) will facilitate exchange of information on cybersecurity between the Finnish Ministry of Finance and the US Treasury Department.

16.6.2022 | The authorities are creating backup arrangements to secure daily payments in the event that serious disruptions of society or emergency conditions would prevent the use of normal payment systems. The Ministerial Working Group on Preparedness decided to implement backup arrangements.

1.9.2023 | The Ministry of Finance of Finland conducted an exercise called Northern Bastion on 29 and 30 August 2023 in Helsinki, Finland, designed to improve financial sector resilience in the Baltic Sea region by developing and exercising approaches for maintaining business continuity through cross-border coordination and cooperation.

8.12.2022 | The outlook review by officials at the Ministry of Finance highlights measures to improve conditions for prosperity, return general government finances to a sustainable footing, reform public administration and services, and implement the green transition effectively. Corrective action must be taken quickly.

24.1.2023 | The development of premises used by central government authorities is being continued. The aim is to increase the security and reliability of properties used by authorities.

25.11.2022 | The coordination of emergency preparedness related to critical information and communications technology infrastructure will be assigned to the National Cyber Security Director. The Ministerial working group on developing the digital transformation, the data economy and public administration endorsed the matter on 25 November.

11.12.2023 | At its meeting of 8 December 2023, the ministerial working group on social transformation adopted the roadmap for Finland's Digital Compass. The roadmap specifies the measures for achieving the objectives set out for the Digital Compass.

23.6.2022 | In its meeting, the Ministerial Working Group on Developing the Digital Transformation, the Data Economy and Public Administration approved the main elements of the legislative proposals concerning a digital identification application and the redesign of the personal identity code. The working group also approved continuing the preparation of Finland’s digital compass based on feedback.

28.7.2022 | Finland ranked first in the European Union’s digital performance comparison. The European Commission’s annual Digital Economy and Society Index (DESI) monitors the digital performance of EU Member States and tracks their progress in digitalisation. Finland has been at the top of the list for several years, ranking number two in 2021 and number one in 2019 and 2020.

18.3.2022 | The Government has begun preparations for developing cybersecurity and the preparedness of public administration. The goal is to form a situation picture and assess the necessary development measures in the circumstances caused by Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
