9.7.2020 | On 9 July 2020, the Government decided to amend the Government Decree on Support for Business Costs with regard to eligible business sectors. Three sectors that are not covered by the scope of application of the Act on Support for Business Costs were removed from the Decree. The amendment will enter into force on 10 July 2020.

10.12.2020 | In its talks on 9 December, the Government discussed different scenarios concerning the development of the COVID-19 epidemic. The three scenarios drawn up for use by the Government examine possible paths of development of the epidemic and their economic and social impacts. The timeline of the scenarios extends from December 2020 until the end of June 2021.

15.10.2020 | In its talks on Thursday 15 October, the Government decided on national and regional recommendations help prevent the spread of the coronavirus. The recommendations take into account the most recent assessment of the epidemiological situation. The Government will adopt a resolution on the recommendations at its plenary session next week (the week beginning on 19 October).

26.6.2020 | On Friday 26 June, the Ministerial Committee on Economic Policy decided on the principles and conditions for granting state financing and support to large companies facing temporary difficulties due to the coronavirus epidemic. 23.10.2020 | In its resolution adopted on 23 October, the Government outlines national and regional recommendations aiming to support regional measures to curb the spread of the epidemic and help get it under control as quickly as possible. Epidemic prevention measures under the Communicable Diseases Act are primarily local and regional.

3.9.2020 | On Thursday 3 September, the Government decided on its fifth supplementary budget proposal for 2020. In its proposal, the Government proposes EUR 60 million in temporary financing to compensate for the costs incurred due to the COVID-19 epidemic. The proposal focuses only on the essential appropriations that must be processed before the sixth supplementary budget proposal for 2020, which the Government plans to submit to Parliament on 29 October 2020.

23.12.2020 | On 23 October 2020, the Government issued a national recommendation for employees to work remotely until further notice. The ministries had to assess the grounds for keeping the recommendation in force by the end of the year.

2.12.2021 | The Government recommends that workplaces in areas in the community transmission phase switch to remote work when possible. Recommendation on remote work will be in effect until further notice. The Government issued a government resolution on the matter on 2 December.

26.8.2021 | The Ministry of Finance and the Ministry of Social Affairs and Health have reviewed the rationale for the national recommendation to work remotely. In view of the epidemiological situation the vaccine coverage is not yet sufficient, which is why no changes are proposed to the recommendation. The recommendation will continue to be in force until 30 September in areas that are in the acceleration or community transmission phase.

4.8.2022 | Minister of Finance Annika Saarikko’s draft budget for 2023 has been drawn up amidst an uncertain economic outlook. The draft budget totals approximately EUR 79.5 billion with a deficit of around EUR 6.3 billion. Borrowing will decrease by approximately EUR 2.5 billion from the total budgeted for 2022. The proposal will be published in full at budjetti.vm.fi on Friday 5 August.
