Youth Dialogue at the House of the Estates on 27 October 2015
Young people discuss with OECD Public Governance Ministers how their voices could be better heard in global decision-making
The international Youth Forum to be held in connection with the OECD Public Governance Ministerial Meeting in Finland will gather together representatives of youth at the Youth Dialogue event on 27 October 2015 at the House of the Estates in Helsinki. These young people aged 15–25 years representing different nationalities will discuss with ministers from six countries. The Youth Dialogue as well as the ministerial meeting on Wednesday will be chaired by Ms Anu Vehviläinen, Minister for Local Government and Public Reforms. The OECD will be represented by Ms Mari Kiviniemi, Deputy Secretary-General.
The delegations of young people represent Finland, Canada, the Czech Republic, Germany, Tunisia, Ireland and Turkey. They have around thirty members in total. The Finnish delegation consists of young people from Kuopio, eastern Lapland and the capital region.
On Tuesday morning, the delegations will learn about Finnish administration on a "Study Tour" arranged by the Finnish Ministry of Finance. They will also get to know each other through different tasks, take part in a humorous quiz about Finland, and act as a user panel for online services.
In the morning, the Finnish delegation will meet Ms Sanni Grahn-Laasonen, Minister of Education and Culture, to tell her their views on the School of the Future project.
In the afternoon, the delegations will hear about the OECD at the House of the Estates. There will also be an informal programme by NGOs varying from football to a beanbag café and art and craft. From 16.00 to 18.00, the delegations will meet Ministers representing six countries at the Youth Dialogue.
On Finland's initiative, the views of young people in more than ten countries were heard on the themes of the Public Governance Ministerial Meeting. The themes were: What is good life? What would the school of the future be like? How the voices of young people could be better heard in the policy process?
At the Youth Dialogue the ministers and representatives of youth will discuss and find ways to achieve the goals and to ensure more even distribution of prosperity globally.
