14.4.2026 | Minister of Finance Riikka Purra will participate in the Spring Meetings of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the World Bank in Washington DC on 15–17 April. The main themes for the week of meetings are the impact of the conflict in the Middle East on the global economy and creating jobs and growth in developing economies.

The project will implement the licencing and supervision activities of the new gambling system. The project must take into account and coordinate the legislative reform of the gambling system and the legislative reform of regional state administration as well as any changes to these legislative projects.

The Programme of Prime Minister Petteri Orpo’s Government states that Finland will gradually shift to making digital services the primary channel for accessing the services of public authorities. The Ministry of Finance has launched the Programme to Promote Primarily Digital Official Communications in order to reach these objectives. The Government Chief Information Officer is the programme owner.

The programme to ease the management of the affairs of a deceased relative is promoting the digitalisation and automation of services related to the death of a relative. The goal is to make it easier for people to use these services in the difficult time following the death of a relative and to make official processes more efficient.

23.10.2025 | Finland’s Minister of Finance Riikka Purra confirmed Finland’s strong support for Ukraine at meetings in Washington DC last week. Finland will participate in NATO’s Prioritised Ukraine Requirements List (PURL) and endorse the using of frozen Russian assets to support Ukraine. According to Purra, Finland must respond to Russia’s escalating aggression against Ukraine, in particular its deliberate targeting of Ukrainian civilians.

20.11.2024 | Marina Erhola, Doctor of Medical Science and County Chief Executive of the wellbeing services county of Pirkanmaa, will start in the position of Under-Secretary of State at the Ministry of Social Affairs and Health on 1 January 2025. As part of her work, she will also support the Ministry of Finance in guiding the wellbeing services counties. Erhola’s duties will include the national guidance of healthcare and social welfare.

4.7.2024 | In its plenary session on Thursday 4 July, the Finnish Government appointed Kristiina Kokko, Master of Theology and Bachelor of Business Administration, to serve as State Secretary to Minister of Local and Regional Government Anna-Kaisa Ikonen and Minister of Science and Culture Sari Multala as of 1 August. The term of the state secretaries is linked to that of the ministers.
